Lake Wylie Summer Activities and Events

Saturdays, ongoing - 10am -4pm, “Living History”.  Historic Brattonsville: witness life in the Carolina Backcountry during 18th and 19th centuries.  Activities and demonstrations vary weekly.

Saturdays, ongoing thru the summer: York Downtown Farmers & Artisans Market.  Open every Saturday from 8am to noon at 53 N. Congress  St, with fresh fruits and vegetables, herbs, honey and eggs, crafts and more.

Every Sunday - Free admission to the Museum of York County.

5/1-5/2 - Enjoy the musical “Zombie Prom ” presented by the Rock Hill Community Theater, 240 E. Black Street.

5/1-5/2 - Spring concert by the Clover High Choraliers.  Presenting “Little Shop of Horrors” musical.  Performances at 8pm on Thursday and Saturday, and Sunday matinee at 3pm.

5/1 Saturday 9-5pm - Safe boating course, Lake Wylie library.  Taught by a U.S. Coast Guard captain, register ahead at Lighthouse Marine Service. 704-587-0325

5/1 Saturday - Beach Days at Rivergate.  Tricycle race, cornhole, bounce house, and more fun for the whole family.

5/1 Saturday - Peter and the Wolf presented by the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, 11am at the Belk Theater in Charlotte.

5/6 Thur - Allison Creek Bluegrass, first and third Thursday of each month, corner of Hands Mill Road and Allison Creek Road.  Different bands are featured each night, along with open jam sessions.  Food is available beginning 6:30pm.

5/7 Friday - “Sara Scott”, acoustic guitar and soul-stirring lyrics, playing at the Sylvia Theater in York.  Doors open at 8:30, show begins at 9pm.

5/8 Saturday - “Rebecca Rippy & Co “, multi-instrumental and vocal, playing at the Sylvia Theater in York.  Doors open at 8:30, show begins at 9pm.

5/8 Saturday 9am-4pm- Survivalcraft at the Schiele MuseumSurvival skill workshop for adults.

5/8-5/9 - Mother’s Day at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.  First 500 mothers receive free plant, plus all mothers can enjoy complementary mini-massages!  Picnic lunches available for purchase, or you can bring your own.

5/14 Friday - Historic York walking tour presented by McCelvey Center in York. The mayor of York will lead CHM members on a tour, focusing on circus history.  10:30am - 1:30am.

5/15 Saturday - Feature exhibit “Pirates” opening at the Schiele Museum. Kickoff with “Breakfast with Blackbeard”, see website for details.

5/15 Saturday - “Under the Big Top” downtown festival presented by McCelvey Center in York.  Parade, entertainment, historical site displays, specialty vendors..

5/15 Saturday - “Weeping Marion Enduring”, a gospel stage play at the Sylvia Theater in York.  Doors open at 8:30, show begins at 9pm.

5/19-22 - Enjoy a Broadway show in uptown Charlotte!  “Wicked” at the Ovens Auditorium, tickets available at Blumenthal Center.

5/20 Thursday, 5:30-7:30pm: Industry Appreciation Day, Countywide Business After Hours at the Tega Cay Golf Club.  Sponsored by the Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce.

5/21, 5/22 Friday and Saturday: NarroWay Productions presents “Not Just Another Love Story.”  A large scale Boradway style musical, remember the days of WWII and The Greatest Generation.  Dinner theater, see website for show times.

5/22 Saturday - Gemstone mining at the Schiele Museum.

5/22 10am: Register ahead for this kayak tour of the Rocky Shoal Spider Lilies, the largest colony of this rare and endangered plant in the world!  Photographers, botanists, and easy paddlers will love this outing sponsored by the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, so see website for event details!

5/22: US National Whitewater Center hosts Riverboound Race series with a 10K footrace winding through the trails at the Whitewater center.

5/22 Saturday - “Livin’ la Vida Local “, local stars come out and play at the Sylvia Theater in York.  Doors open at 8:30, show begins at 9pm.

5/27 Thursday, 5:30-7:30pm: Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours at the Lake Wylie Plaza, sponsored by Sportcenter Athletic Club, David Wysor Jewelry, and Q-2-U Catering.

5/27 Thursday - “Independent Film Makers Night” playing at the Sylvia Theater in York.  Show begins at 8pm.

5/28 Saturday: NarroWay Productions presents “Not Just Another Love Story.”  A large scale Boradway style musical, remember the days of WWII and The Greatest Generation.  Dinner theater, see website for show times.

5/28-31 - Feel like a road trip?  Freedom Weekend Aloft, a colorful spectacle of hot-air balloons at Heritage Park in Simpsonville, SC (near Greenville).  Along with the balloons, ther eis a car show, concerts, and family fun.

5/29 - Joyfest 2010 at Carowinds.

5/29-30 - Family “outback” camping trip at the Schiele MuseumPitch tents along the nature trail.  Marshmallow roasting, campfire songs, a good time without having to go too far!

5/31 Monday - 10am -4pm, Memorial Day Remembrance at  Historic Brattonsville: children’s military drills, firearm demonstrations, cooking, house tours, games.

6/12 - Throughout the summer, enjoy Lake Wylie Music Fest sunset celebrations the 2nd Saturday of each month.  Live music, presented from a private dock, to an audience of boaters.  Location: Boyd’s Cove, music begins at 6pm, movie at 8pm.
